The learning curve

When will people learn to negotiate the learning curve and start delivering results? I find myself with the unenviable task of managing 3 distinct categories of personnel.

  • Know it all - share nothing

  • Know nothing - project it all

  • Know nothing - share nothing

Each of these 3 categories of personnel are dangerous to different degrees at different levels of the organization.

So what does this have to do with a learning curve? Well, my job is to bring them to a common understanding point. This involves negotiating a learning curve, the gradient of which, will vary from individual to individual.

I factor that into my calculations as well. When results are slower I re-evaluate my working and make adjustments. But some folks - especially those at senior positions refuse to see the light. They believe in running things like a corner store where one man friday solves/works on everything. I refuse to be that man friday UNLESS, the accompanying respect is given. I have tried to put this into their head for quite some time now. However, they have a really really tough nut - nothing seems to permeate.

I'm not a quitter - so I will try to push the medicine in another way. My GOAL - this illness must be cured..
